Harmony, Inc. Welcomes On Q Chorus

Today On Q Chorus became the newest chapter of Harmony, Inc. The chapter is located in Albuquerque, NM. We are looking forward to welcoming them all in Louisville, Kentucky, at our International Convention in November where they will be competing in the Silver Division Contest.

Sea Belles welcome visitors to 2014 World Women’s Curling Championships

Sea Belles sang the Canadian national anthem during Opening Ceremonies welcoming audiences from around the globe to the 2014 Ford World Women’s Curling Championships, Saturday, March 15, held in Saint John, NB. Teams from Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Korea, Latvia, Russia, Scotland, Sweden, Switzerland and the US competed in dozens of games during the week long event. What a wonderful welcome to Saint John Harbour Station!

Epic and Foreign Exchange quartets – both nominated for two Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards (CARA) for 2014

For the first time ever, two Harmony, Inc. International Championship Quartets have been nominated for the coveted top two CARA awards in the barbershop category in a single year!  It’s Epic, by Epic, 2012 Harmony Queens, was nominated for Best Barbershop Album and "Cruella De Vil” for Best Barbershop Song.  Made in America, by Foreign Exchange, 2011 Harmony Queens, was nominated for Best Barbershop Album and "No, No, Norman” for Best Barbershop Song.  Needless to say, this is a “record-breaking” year!  Winners will be announced and awards presented, live, April 12, 2014, at the CARA Banquet and Awards Dinner, at Boston Sings (BOSS).  The gala event will be held at the Cyclorama, Boston Center for the Arts, 539 Tremont St, Boston.  Stay tuned!  And, congratulations, Epic and Foreign Exchange!

The ScotianAires help launch the brand for the new Halifax Convention Centre

The ScotianAires were on hand January 23rd as Halifax launched the brand for the new Halifax Convention Centre, scheduled to be open in 2016. We were invited to perform to promote Harmony Inc and our contest and convention which will be held at the new centre November 2017. The invited guests were treated to Barbershop singing as they arrived at the event and again at the conclusion of the announcement. We wore pink sashes that read HARMONY INC 2017. It was a wonderful afternoon and each one of us was made to feel very special. Look for us in our sashes at International 2016!

Sound Celebration Around The World

When our chorus changed its name to Sound Celebration in the mid 1990’s we asked barbershop arranger, Tom Gentry to write a theme song for us. He composed and arranged the song “Sound Celebration.” It’s been sung by male and female barbershop groups in the USA and other countries. Tom was contacted by a new chorus in Germany who were inspired by the song as a name for their chapter. Let the sound of barbershop music be heard around the world.

Jan DelVecchio in a YouTube clip to promote Halifax Convention Centre

In December Jan DelVecchio was asked by the Halifax Convention Centre folks if she would be willing to take part in a video shoot that would be used in a public relations video for the new Convention Centre. She agreed and five of them arrived at her home on a snowy day the week before Christmas. Click on the link to see our own Convention Manager starring in a video to promote the Halifax Convention Centre, where our IC&C will be held in 2017. 

Women’s A Cappella Group Continues to Break Records

The Village Vocal Chords chorus (the “VVC”) has recently won its 19th chorus championship at Harmony Inc’s International Contest and Convention. No other chorus in the history of the organization has won as many championships. This year’s contest was held in Windsor, Ontario, CA, the weekend of November 15-17, and saw 23 of the organization’s top-ranked choruses competing. In addition to the chorus championship, “Spot On” took the quartet championship honors.

Sea Belles, Area 1 championship chorus from Saint John, NB, is featured on an episode of Bell Aliant’s Community One TV series, Simply Zen. This week’s theme, “Music and Wellness,” explores how much difference music can make to your health and wellbeing. The program kicks off with the Sea Belles singing. Later in the show, there are interviews with Janet Kidd, director, plus several chorus members discussing how music has affected their lives. Also, included are more opportunities to see the chorus perform. What a pleasure to watch, ladies!
