President’s Message – February 2021

As we approach what is almost a full year of social restrictions due to Covid-19, we are growing weary of waiting and Zooming!  We are being respectful of the rules and recommendations, but more importantly we are being respectful of each other. Bit by bit, things are changing – the light is still flickering!

Thank you for participating in the recent survey regarding International Convention & Contests 2021.  More than 1,000 members took part.  We continue to negotiate with the venue and are pleased to advise that they have extended our deadline until April 1.  This leaves us with a little more time to fully assess the situation.  More updates will follow as soon as they are available.

I encourage you to stay the course, setting your sights on what lies ahead. I ask you, “Can you glimpse the future?” How will you help to get your chorus or quartet back on its feet?  What can we do now to ensure that, when that time comes, we will be ready to sing again?

When I was thinking about this, I was reminded of a J.K. Rowling quote, “We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already: we have the power to imagine better.”

My friends, dig deep and imagine. See yourself in your chorus/quartet outfit, smiling from the inside out, as you bring a song to life for your next audience, whenever and wherever that might be!

Our Condolences

Our sincere condolences are extended to the Tramack family as they said their final good by to Renee’s mom, Pat Longchamp. Pat was a 60-year member of Harmony, Inc.

All of Harmony sends a virtual hug to both the Tramack and Longchamp families.

Great news!

Remember how I said that a new common song was in the making? Well, my friends, it is ready for you.  The song We Are Thankful, was arranged by our music judges as a learning opportunity for them and a gift to Harmony. This song will be easy to learn and has a great message. Our judging program has stepped up in so many ways this past year. Many of them have offered their time as educators with the HIVE classes and as invited guests to chapter rehearsals and now, giving us a song. Yes, we are thankful!  Please go to the members only section of our website to download the tracks and sheet music.

BHS Mid-Winter Convention

Huge thank you to the Communications Team (particularly Anita and Kelly) for helping to put the finishing touches to our Harmony, Inc. suite! If there is one thing I have learned it’s that I wish I had of played more video games so I could, at the very least, walk around without walking into doors and walls (let alone furniture) in our virtual world!

I am grateful for those moments when I had the opportunity to chat with some of you while we were “on-site”. This event also afforded us the opportunity to give a shout-out to how creative and committed Harmony, Inc has been in staying connected to each other, honoring our commitment to education and celebrating our music.  We will look back on this year and be proud!

Big thank you to Hot Pursuit, 2019 Harmony Queens, for hosting the hospitality room on Friday night. They bring so much energy and fun to the organization! And we all need a little fun these days. Thanks for sharing with us!

The Tramack family performed for the afterglow on Friday evening – so much talent! If anyone is looking for a “tutorial” on bringing a song to life, just watch their performances!  Thank you to Taken for Granite, 2016 Harmony Queens, for representing Harmony, Inc. at the Show Case on Sunday Night.
