Harmony, Inc. provides a positive experience for all women who want to be part of a strong network of female barbershop harmony singers.
Our mission is, “Empowering all women through education, friendship, and singing”. Founded in 1959, Harmony, Inc. currently has almost 70 chapters and 2,000+ members in the United States and Canada. Sixty years after our founding we continue to maintain the democratic principle of, “one voice, one vote”.
Not sure if you are ready for this? Ask yourself these three questions, and if the answer is “yes” to all of them, then you are on your way!
- Do you know a group of at least 14 women who love to sing and want to join your new chapter?
- Do you have a capable director willing to work with your new chapter?
- Are you willing to be a contact person, answer phone calls, find a meeting place and advertise your new chapter?
STEP 1 Getting in touch with us
There are many steps in starting a new chapter and we know you’ll have lots of questions along the way. Our New Chapter Development Coordinator will help you from start to finish. The first thing she’ll need is some basic information about you and your potential chapter. Please complete the Potential Chapter Inquiry Form and once your information is received, she will contact you to guide you through the entire charter process.
STEP 2 Information sharing – lots to learn
We’ll be sharing information about member privileges and responsibilities, Harmony, Inc’s governmental structure, and our conventions and contests. There’ll be more information coming your way about chapter bylaws and standing rules, all leading to you becoming a chartered chapter of Harmony, Inc. You’ll need to ensure you have a place to rehearse, a director, and at least 14 members. Start thinking about setting up your own Board of Directors in preparation for the big day!
STEP 3 Heading to the home stretch – becoming a Charter Chapter in Harmony, Inc.
You’ve been building your chapter and are now ready to take the final step to become a chartered chapter of Harmony, Inc. You’ll complete our Chapter Charter Application and send it along with a non-refundable Charter Application Fee of $50 (U.S. funds or its equivalent in Canadian funds). Once your application to charter has been approved by our International Board of Directors you are officially a Chapter of Harmony, Inc. Congratulations!
STEP 4 Celebrate
Becoming a chartered chapter in Harmony, Inc. is cause for celebration! It is also time to have an Installation Ceremony with your new Board of Directors. There are lots of traditions for this ceremony and we’ll be happy to share them with you. Welcome to Harmony, Inc.
