As summer's notes linger...
Let's step boldly into the future
By Gaye LaCasce, International President
Can you feel it? That first whisper of cool breeze, the honeyed light at sunset, and the collective North American sigh signaling summer’s grand finale. Whether you spell it “Labor” or “Labour”, this weekend heralds a transition - a time to celebrate everything we’ve sung, shared, and discovered before stepping into autumn’s embrace.
When we lived in New England, my family and I always greeted Labor Day with a twinge of sadness - snow could start falling within eight weeks (though the foliage was spectacular!) Living now in Virginia, it’s a happier turn of the calendar for me. Post-Labor Day we say we “live for free” – no need for heat or air conditioning, and every day feels glorious, with not a thought of snow.
That shift in spirit is our signal - summer is winding down. And what a Harmony, Inc. summer it’s been. From sunlit rehearsals and spontaneous singalongs to social gatherings and outdoor gigs at festivals, fairs, and ballgames, you’ve embraced every moment. Summer Sing programs across many chapters welcomed hundreds of new voices. And who could forget the thrill of Harmony Fest West?
Welcome to our new voices
We’re especially delighted to welcome the newest voices of our Harmony family. You’ve joined choruses, quartets, and our community with open hearts and bold spirit. Your presence enriches us. Whether you're a seasoned singer or just discovering the joy of barbershop harmony, you belong here - and we can’t wait to cheer you on.
The excitement builds
Now, as fall approaches, our collective energy turns toward our most anticipated event of the year - our annual International Convention and Contests in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Excitement is building; costumes are being finalized, chords are being locked, choreography is crisp, and chocolate-themed puns are already flying. It’ll be more than a contest; it’s a reunion, a celebration, a chance to stand shoulder to shoulder with friends old and new, united by music and mission.
So let’s savor the sweetness of summer’s end and step boldly into what’s next. Whether you're prepping for the stage, volunteering behind the scenes, soaking in the joy of shared song - or all of the above - know that you are part of something extraordinary. This organization has a special culture that is palpable when we’re together, and I, for one, can’t wait.
As summer’s final notes linger in the air, here’s to new beginnings, lasting friendships, and the unforgettable harmony we’ll create together - in Hershey and beyond.

JUST A REMINDER
By Karen Cross, Copyright and Licensing Coordinator
What an incredible summer of singing it’s been! From sun-splashed outdoor stages to packed halls buzzing with harmony, we hope your chorus or quartet had a season full of music, laughter, and maybe even a little profit to help fuel your fall.
Now comes the not-so-glamorous but oh-so-important part: reporting your performance activity. Why? Because when we sing in public, someone’s always listening… and in this case, it’s the music licensing agencies (ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC).
Here’s the good news: you don’t need to juggle three separate licenses or chase paperwork. Harmony, Inc. has umbrella agreements in place! All you need to do is fill out Form HAR-122 (found in the Members Only section of the website). We’ll handle the reporting for you — saving your chapter both time and money.
Mark Your Calendar
• Deadline for submission to Corporate: October 10, 2025 • Even better: submit your form within 10 days of your performance to keep everything smooth and stress-free.
Who Needs to Report?
• Any performance your chapter put on this summer or fall— whether you sold tickets, accepted donations, or sang your hearts out for free.
• Unless you already have your own direct accounts with ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC, reporting through Harmony, Inc. is your best route.
• Canadian Chapters: you’re a special case! You report directly to SOCAN, as our umbrella license doesn’t currently cover Canada.
Quick Tips
• Bookmark the live event report link: harmonyinc.org/live event-report
• Keep a simple log of your performances so you never miss a beat.
• Remember: reporting keeps us legal, ethical, and respectful of the songwriters and composers who give us the music we love to sing.
Need Help?
• Finance questions? financeoffice@harmonyinc.org • Licensing questions? recording@harmonyinc.org
Let’s keep the harmony ringing—not the lawyers calling. Report your performances, stay covered, and let’s move confidently into another season of music!
Quick Reminder
• Submit Form HAR-122 by October 10, 2025
• Submit within 10 days of your event when possible
• Link: harmonyinc.org/live event-report
• Questions? financeoffice@harmonyinc.org recording@harmonyinc.org

Area 6 is on fire, in a good way! Under the enthusiastic leadership of Angie Beatty, the number of chapters has grown, particularly over the past few years. She set out to accomplish growth, and she did it! She also wants to see this continue into the future and to ensure that happens she donates, volunteers and is a member of the 1959 Society.
How did you discover Harmony?
International was held in my hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, and a bunch of us from my Sweet Adelines chorus went to watch the contest. I also knew Change of Heart from my Sweet Adelines Region. They had been inviting me for years, but I was really involved with my chorus and quartet and being a member of multiple organizations was not as prevalent as is it now. I found Harmony again 15 years later when Pam Ringo was invited by Kris Wheaton to direct Bluegrass Harmony chorus.
What stands out for you as your most memorable Harmony, Inc. moment?
There are so many memories! For me, my most favorite is after working a year and a half to grow Area 6, we doubled in size and went from 132 members to close to 250, which included 25 Associates! At that AC&C, we had 114 first timers to Area 6.
This contest was held at the Embassy Suites, which had an open atrium that spanned from the lobby up to the top floor. After the completion of the chorus contest and before the banquet, we had everyone come hang over the balcony. Kathy Stone, who had just won the chorus contest with Atlanta Harmony Celebration, stood on the platform at the base of the steps and directed What a Dream Can Do, filling the atrium with so much beautiful sound! I still listen to that recording every now and then and it never fails to bring a tear to my eyes.
You are a member of the newly established 1959 Society, and have contributed to our organization in many ways, including volunteering at the chapter and corporate level. Why is it important to support our organization in such impactful ways?
It should not come as a surprise to anyone that Harmony, Inc. is my passion. I love this organization as it has given me so much. I've learned and grown as a leader, a singer, and a friend and I just want to give back so others can have the same opportunities I have had.
What do you hope to see as a result of your donations?
I would like to see Harmony continue this path of growth by using the donations to continue growing Harmony; not just in numbers, but by expanding programs, providing more education, and creating more youth opportunities. Also important is adding areas out to the west, in Canada, and filling in the empty spaces in our current Areas, building a strong foundation for the future of Harmony, Incorporated! |
